Protect PDF
Encrypt your PDF with a password required to open it. AES-256 encryption runs in your browser.
Use a password you can safely store. If you lose the opening password, this tool cannot recover it. Files are processed in your browser and are not uploaded to our application server.
How to protect a PDF
- Choose a PDF file from your device.
- Enter an opening password of at least 8 characters, then confirm it.
- Select Protect PDF, then download the verified encrypted copy.
If the source PDF is already password-protected, enter its current password first. The original file remains unchanged.
Privacy and password security
The selected PDF and passwords are handled in your browser; the document is not uploaded to our application server. The output uses AES-256 PDF encryption. Keep the opening password safe because it cannot be recovered if lost.
Permission settings such as disabling copying or printing are supported by many PDF readers but can be ignored by some software. The opening password is the primary access protection.
