Search PDF Text

Find a word or phrase in a PDF, see which pages contain it, and review nearby text without manually scanning every page.

How to search text in a PDF

  1. Select a PDF containing selectable text.
  2. Enter the word or phrase you want to find. Turn on case-sensitive matching when capitalization matters.
  3. Select Search PDF to see occurrence counts, page numbers and snippets. Export the results as a plain-text report when needed.

Results are based on the text layer stored in the PDF. Text may appear in a different order from the page's visual layout, and ligatures or unusual encodings can affect matching. Snippets are intended to help you locate potential matches, not to replace review of the original page.

Privacy and file handling

Search runs in your browser. The PDF is not uploaded to our application server, and the tool only reads the selectable text layer; it does not change the source file.

Scanned pages containing only images cannot be searched by this tool until OCR adds a text layer. Password-protected, damaged or unsupported PDFs may fail. Large files can use considerable memory on your device.

When PDF text search is useful

Use text search to locate names, terms, dates, references or repeated phrases in reports, lecture notes, contracts and other documents. Always check the surrounding context in the original PDF, especially when the result affects a decision or formal record.
